Seas the Day: Yoga & Nutrition Recap

To continue with our Seas the Day series, we focused on doing some good for the mind, body, and soul with a Yoga & Nutrition Collective.

We scouted eleven different Seattle area parks by the water before deciding that Richmond Beach Saltwater Park would be the perfect setting. And oh, what a setting it was! Collective participants arrived to a grassy bluff overlooking the peaceful waters of Puget Sound and an expansive cotton candy sky where you could just tell the sunset was gonna be good. Really good.

The multi-talented Brenna Kramer of Borboleta expertly guided us through yoga movements and relaxing breathwork that helped us center our minds and focus on being in the present. True to the Carpe Diem philosophy, living in the present can help us live life more fully without worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. We felt the stresses of work, never-ending to-do lists and everyday life melt away as the calm settled over us.

After the refreshing yoga session, we rolled up our mats and made our way to the picnic tables where a delicious spread awaited us that included stone fruit caprese salad, tomato and eggplant gratin, blueberry mascarpone tart, and more – all prepared by Brenna. Some of us may have gone back for seconds (guilty)!

Brenna also shared tips on healthy eating and being mindful about making good food choices, including the importance of eating local in-season foods to maximize the nutritional benefits to our bodies. (Tip: Seattle has some great farmers markets that you can get fresh, locally sourced food year-round, like Ballard, Capitol Hill Broadway, Fremont, West Seattle, University District, and of course the highly popular Pike Place. Washington state residents, here’s a handy resource to find a farmers market near you.)

The Collective wrapped up as the sky delivered on its promise of a spectacular fiery sunset, and we all walked away with a sense of renewal and the reminder that to live a fulfilling life, it’s important to pause and slow down every now and then.
